Everyone seems to think I could easily devour an entire chicken. Why, if I didn't need both hands to polish off this bucket…!

Neil, for no apparent reason, loudly proclaims at the restaurant, "Dad, I think you could eat a whole chicken!"

Who am I wearing? Glad you asked. Lands' End sweat pants & the doesn't-leave-the-house T-shirt my wife hates the most.

Very white here today.

Learned today, after the 3rd attempt, that a LIGHT touch is a good idea when using an 18v drill to put in screws.

Scenes From A Borders Liquidation Sale

We went by our local Borders this weekend. It's one of the ones closing and I was thinking, "Maybe they'll have some things on sale. I'm sure it's no busier than ever so we'll just make a quick stop."

Boy was I wrong.

We got to the parking lot for the strip mall and it was overflowing. I still persisted in thinking that people were there for some other reason, like a special event at one of the restaurants. I even mentioned to Terry that there was no way these people were there for Borders.

I parked and let Terry go in to check things out since Gillian was asleep. While waiting I sat there looking at the signs and thinking, "20%? That still doesn't make it as cheap as getting things from Amazon. This sounds like a waste of time."

It wasn't long before Terry came back out. She confirmed that EVERYONE at the strip mall was inside that Borders, and they were all going nuts. The line for checking out stretched to the back of the store. People had armloads of books.

At 20% off list price.

Terry took one quick pass and determined that there was absolutely no point, came out, and we went home.

My 2yo daughter calls Chick-fil-A "Chicken Play", perhaps influenced by their good play area. Perhaps not.

Don't be a button cell doofus.

I'm talking about those tiny little batteries you need for various items like kid toys, laser pointers, etc. They look like this:

If you go to Target or Walmart or the hardware store to find these batteries you'll pay a hefty amount, up to $6 for a pair.

Normally this is the kind of item where I don't even think about hitting Amazon, figuring that shipping on such a cheap item would way more than offset any meager savings.

Boy was I wrong.

On a whim one day I decided to check on Amazon.com for LR44's that I needed for one of Neil's toys. I found this:

Media_httpscrookssmug_eqzas

The cost is only $2.25. That's $2.25 for 10, and it includes shipping! You don't have to have a Prime membership or anything, it's simply $2.25 for 10 batteries shipped to your door.

It gets even better. Have a device that runs through these batteries fast? Get 50 of these batteries for $4.75 and that still includes shipping.

There are a wide variety of button cells available on Amazon.com, all in large quantities for only a few dollars and no cost for shipping.  Unless I'm in a big hurry you'll never catch me paying way, way too much locally for these things again.

Tell me AGAIN why you're making me do this, Dad?
