How I Lost 20 Pounds in 20 Weeks With My iPhone (or: Data is King)
I even use the same app, Lose It, on my iPhone. That app happens to tie in nicely with my FitBit, and the two sites can be set to share information with each other. A particularly vigorous day of walking can thus give me a higher calorie ceiling.
Counting calories works wonderfully for me. How could it not? I was doing great last year, but fell off the wagon in the second half of last year leading up to the birth of Violet and stopped counting calories. Went up about 8 pounds despite my best winging-it efforts and felt every one of them.
Now I’m back on the wagon and immediately dropping it back off. Simple science. The hardest part is getting all the calories counted, particularly because my wife can be kind of a free-form cook. Thankfully, she’s eager to help me out, and between us we muddle through. Perfection isn’t necessary, just a really good effort and the discipline to stay under the calorie cap. I can do that.
